Sebastien has also just confirmed the first live date of his full national tour in the UK at Shepherds Bush Empire on 2nd October -recent live shows at The Scala and ICA were both sold out performances so demand will be extremely high.  Ticket Link on the right.

Sebastien Tellier - Divine Eurovision Scala

Sebastien’s second single off ‘Sexuality’ is ‘Divine’, which will be released May 19th and comes backed with some seriously excellent remixes courtesy of Midnight Juggernauts and Danger and another fantastic sleeve design courtesy of Manu Cossu. Vinyl formats are strictly limited so we suggest you click on the links to the right quick sharp. Factor in an extensive European tour and the still brilliantly bonkers fact that he’ll be representing France at Eurovision 2008 in Belgrade May 24th, and it’s readily apparent that everyone’s favorite Frenchman has got one hell of a Spring ahead of him. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we’d be remiss in neglecting to mention Tellier’s return to London later this month when he takes over the Scala on April 24th, this time with support from the lovely Lykke Li and up-and-comer Bridgette Amofah. Sebastien Tellier - Eurovision 2008!

Following the release of his outstanding new studio album ‘Sexuality’, Sebastien Tellier, the voice of modern French electronic pop, has now been chosen to represent his country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Belgrade on 24th May.

As news travels through the shocked blog world, Sebastien Tellier once again shows his contrary and beguiling ability to both unite generations of French artistic entrepreneurs  (from Serge Gainsbourg through Daft Punk to Mr Oizo and the Ed Bangers’ crew) and to continually confound singer-songwriter stereotypes with his mercurial magic.  As always, with Sebastien, expect the unexpected. 

Sebastien says of the event, "I am thrilled and excited about the prospect of performing in Belgrade in May.  My recent album, ‘Sexuality’, is my attempt at relaying my vision of perfect love and I am therefore very happy to have been presented with an opportunity to express this idea to a wider European audience".

Sebastien will perform one of ‘Sexuality’s’ standout songs and future single, ‘Divine’, at the event, which he will adapt to sing half in English and half in French. The song is a supremely uplifting and infectious slice of electro funk with beach boy-esque harmonies - the perfect soundtrack to the summer.

We announced last month that Sebastien Tellier was back with “Sexual Sportswear”, the first single from his forthcoming studio album “Sexuality”. Well it’s just been given Tune of the Month status by those lovely people at Mixmag who’ve said ‘it’s sexier than Juliette Binoche in a tennis dress’ . We agree sirs but if you think the song’s sexy then wait til you see the video! It’s very, very, very sexy and you have to, have to, really have to watch it on our YouTube page here.

We’re hoping you’ve already heard - as Radio One head honcho’s Monsieur’s Zane Lowe, Rob Da Bank and Pete Tong have already been hammering the tune but he’s back! Sebastien Tellier, author of 2005's tear-jerking classic, “La Ritournelle”, returns on December 17th with “Sexual Sportswear”, the first release from his forthcoming studio album “Sexuality”.

Surely now, even more than ever, he's the one true artist who clearly connects the vanguard of France's modern generations of musical magicians, from Gainsbourg to Air (he was initially discovered as a member of their classic 2000 band), through Mr.Oizo (Seb was co-writer and performer on the electro-classical club anthem 'Stunt' and contributor to the forthcoming Steak OST) and the new electronic Ed Banger exporters, of whom, Tellier's near-namesake, SebastiAn contributes a sensually smooth remake to illicit disco fever.

The gel which joins all are the genial pioneers, Daft Punk, one half of which  ... drum roll please...Guy Manuel De Homem-Christo, has produced this and also all of the seminal new album, 'Sexuality'.

"Sexuality” will be Sebastien’s third studio album following 2005’s “Politics”, & 2001’s “L’Incroyable Vérité” and despite it's instrumentalism “Sexual Sportswear” gives clear indication of the emotional delivery that awaits us on the forthcoming full-length which will be released February 2008.

We have brought in some early import 12” copies from France which have been pressed on to pink flesh effect vinyl (limited to just 500 copies for the UK), you will need to be super quick to grab a copy of this. The buzz around this release is pretty, pretty, huge and it currently holds the No 1 club positions in DMC’s Zzub Chart and also Pure Groove’s Cool Cuts chart.

 

 

Sebastien Tellier - Film's and Soundtracks

There may not have been any releases (yet!) on Lucky Number this year but Sebastien Tellier has been very busy indeed.

Sebastien has scored the music soundtrack for the French film “Steak” - along with Mr Oizo (who also directed the movie) and SebastiAn.  It is very wonderful and can be purchased on the Ed Bangers label. Click here to take a listen via myspace. Sebastien also has a small role in the film - it is bonkers but brilliant!

In the UK, Daft Punk’s beautiful film Electroma has recently been premiered at the ICA and will be released on DVD in September. Sebastien's track "Universe" forms the backdrop for the climactic scene in the film. We don’t want to spoil the ending to the film so please don't click on this link  if you are intending to see it (which you definitely should).

Sebastien’s beautiful re-working of the Scissor Sisters Xmas single “Land of a Thousand Words” is out today (Monday December 4th, 2006) as an iTunes exclusive only.  Sebastien sings lead vocal, has changed arrangement etc - to use the words of the highly irritating X Factor judge Louie Walsh (why?) he “has made the song his own”.  It is truly brilliant; we recommend you check it out.
