SEVENTEEN EVERGREEN - THE FOREVER STORY
20.08.08
Seventeen Evergreen have provided music for a Talk Talk supported
project called The Forever Story. The Forever Story is an
attempt to produce the longest user-generated story in the world,
and so end up in the Guinness Book of Records. Anyone is able to
read or contribute personally to the continuing story. The story
was started by Nick Hornby and will call on other famous writers,
such as Robert Harris and Tom Sykes, as well as members of the public.
The Forever Story is raising funds for Treehouse, a charity, of
which Nick Hornby is a founding parent. It aims to transform through
education the lives of children with autism and the those of their
families & carers. Talk Talk has agreed to donate a 20 pence
per word written to the Treehouse charity.
Seventeen Evergreen, as well as Aqualung and Mum, have provided
the music. Go take a look HERE
and have a listen to Seventeen Evergreen's "Andromedan Dream
Of An Octaroon" (Corker Conboy Mix).
Seventeen Evergreen - Encyclopedia Pictura
18.04.08
Our favourite Californian electronic/rock pop duo, Seventeen
Evergreen, are currently holed up in a cabin somewhere in the
verdant hills of California, hard at work on their second album.
A bit too early to report on that front yet, but you may remember
them teaming up with a then-unknown art/video directing duo called
Encylcopedia Pictura way back when on their debut video for ‘Haven’t
Been Yourself’ and also on their much admired artwork
for their album etc. Well, the Encyclopedia boys are all grown up
now and recently debuted their awe-inspiring and deservedly uber-hyped
new video for Bjork’s ‘Wanderlust’ (to
be formally released with 3D goggles soon, no less) to universal
critical acclaim. What’s not terribly well-known, however,
is that the EP collective also put together a number of short clips
to accompany Seventeen Evergreen’s live shows. Although said
clips were previously unavailable for viewing outside of the confines
of the venues graced by the band over the last year or so - now,
for the first time, we’re pleased to announce that these clips
can be viewed via the all powerful YouTube. Please check out the
individual links below as each and every video is superb or watch
all of the bands videos in one session here
Seventeen Evergreen - End of Year Poll Awards
30.12.07
Whilst Seventeen Evergreen are currently back
home in San Francisco getting ready to record their second album,
some very nice press bits and pieces have arisen this month. Firstly
the ubiquitous Pitchfork said how much they liked Bi-Polar
Men's outstanding mix of album track “Ensoniq”, then
The Daily Telegraph selected ”Life Embarrasses Me On Planet
Earth” as one of their Top 10 Albums of the Year and
finally Uncut magazine said the album cover art was the 2nd
best of the year. The album artwork was made by the genius’ that
are Encyclopedia Pictura who also made the award winning
promo video to the bands debut single ”Haven’t Been Yourself”.

Seventeen Evergreen - Music is the Wine
05.11.07
After much broad-based critical approval for both their debut
album, “Life Embarrasses Me On Planet Earth” and
debut UK live and radio session dates our super San Franciscans,
Seventeen Evergreen, recently released the much
anticipated lead single, “Music Is The Wine” on
October 29th.
The EP is available as a strictly limited, and lovingly packaged,
twelve inch vinyl and a not so lovingly packaged download and comes
backed with HUGE remixes. Further fortifying the aphrodisiac funkiness
of the original is the most chic of Parisians, Joakim.
His remix comes on like the super-slinky ’Space-Disco’ sister to
Taana Gardner's classic “Heartbeat”, a groove of dancefloor lust
you can imagine both Grandmaster Flash & Larry Levan championing
as their own. It's a minimal but bumpin' breakbeat that feels like
it's on the cusp of a new dance genre, cutting a fresh soulful edge
to the track alongside the reverberations of a startling sonic mix
of rasping keyboard trills & effects that Joakim rocks so well!
In addition we hear surely a new expression of 'dubstep' with
Bi-Polar Men's outstanding mix of album track “Ensoniq”,
providing an irresistible urgency to the deep bass tones we're used
to from the genre. Leading scenester Skream has already made this
mix a stalwart of his international dj sets and featured it on his
recent Radio 1 'Essential Mix'.
Finally as with all the Seventeen Evergreen releases to date
the artwork is simply fantastic - the artwork this time by renowned
US artist Souther Salazar. This will be the last
single lifted from their debut and the band are currently back home
in San Francisco recording their second album

Seventeen Evergreen - Lunar One EP
2007
Seventeen Evergreen will be releasing "Lunar
One" from “Life Embarrasses Me On Planet Earth”
on July 23rd, 2007. The release is in EP form and will be released
in both CD and 12" formats - take a look at the artwork below,
how can you resist! Lead track, 'Lunar One'
is a haunting adventure of constant cosmos fascination, with our
traveler leading a determined mission for advancement, "I'm
comin' up on you, there's not a thing that you can do..." 'Lunar
One' explores the loneliness, as well as the heroism, of
space exploration & earthly escapism. New tracks 'Burn
The Fruit' & 'Atlas' further throw
the spotlight on the range of their repertoire. The former pits
Steve Reich in an imaginary jam with Talking
Heads whilst Hot Chip, Giorgio Moroder and the aforementioned
Eno fight, superhero gloves off, over the mixing desk. You'll certainly
feel a more delicate acoustic edge from the latter, a psychedelic
ballad set to a dreamscape while paying tribute to a tired and weary
Greek titan.
In addition the inclusion of remixes of album tracks offer up
more surprises. Corker Conboy add extra spine-tingle
to album closer, 'Andromedan Dreams Of An Octaroon',
with strings from Ninja signed Coldcut collaborator
John Mathias who wrote and played strings for Radiohead's beyond-classic
'The Bends.' Corker Conboy themselves have scored success,
soundtracking director Antonia Bird's Emmy-nominated 9/11 docudrama,
'The Hamburg Cell.' Finally, the man who made The Cure's keyboards
extra-Gothic, Roger O'Donnell, lends further outer-space
to 'Constellation', with his unique floating gossamer
sounds!

What the papers say...;
"It’s great...;dreamy, quirky, croaky-voices, mildly smacked-out
arty slacker rock somewhere between Grandaddy and Pavement"
(4/5 Sunday Telegraph)
"a mix of shimmering but off-centre pop melodicism with
sci-fi whimsy and low budget electronica...;ethereally sublime"
(4/5 Uncut)
“mixing rock and electronics they mine the same louche, special
box of ballads as AIR, early 1970s Pink Floyd and Sparklehorse,
but with a definite West Coast twist that suggests hallucinogens
ingested under desert skies " (4/5 The Times)
Encyclopedia Pictura / Seventeen Evergreen
2007
We’re delighted to inform you that the video for Seventeen
Evergreen’s debut release “Haven’t Been Yourself”
has been picking up props and award nominations, as well as a lot
of internet interest in a “internet killed the video star” style.
The video has been nominated for the Bay Area Indie Music Awards
after recently being screened as a work of outstanding creative
merit at events at the LA Museum of Natural History and the National
Film Theatre in London. There was a particularly nice feature
with Isaiah and Sean from Encyclopedia Pictura,
the genius directors of the video, on the Dazed
and Confused website. Please watch the amazing
video if you haven’t already - see our media page for links to a
stream and to Youtube. We also strongly encourage you to check
out more of Encyclopedia’s
work.
