Sleigh Bells – Justine Go Genesis

Texis, the new album from Sleigh Bells, is set for release on September 10th 2021 and today the duo, comprised of producer/guitarist Derek Miller and singer Alexis Krauss, share a new track from the album, entitled “Justine Go Genesis”. One of the first songs written for Texis, Miller sent an early demo to Krauss in 2018, feeling excited about its ultra-fast tempo but slightly self-conscious about his cartoonish, over-the-top metal riff.  Krauss clicked with the music right away and wrote her bright, unabashedly poppy melody within a few hours of receiving the track, resulting in a song that sounds like the unexpected intersection of Metallica, Spice Girls, and ‘90s drum and bass.

The video for the track, shot on 16mm film and directed by Alex Ross Perry (Her Smell, Queen of Earth, Golden Exits) and Derek Miller with Cinematography by Sean Price Williams (Good Time, …Heaven Knows What), picks up where the band’s video for Texis single “Locust Laced” left off, referencing early 80’s horror films, The Twilight Zone, the band’s own incredible live show, and more. This is the band’s second collaboration with Perry and Williams, who previously worked on the video for “I Can Only Stare”.

Sleigh Bells – new album Texis + Locust Laced

Sleigh Bells – comprised of producer/guitarist Derek Miller and singer Alexis Krauss – are thrilled to announce their latest album, Texis, set for release on September 10th, 2021. The first single from the record, “Locust Laced”, is a classic slice of Sleigh Bells’ signature-controlled chaos that has made them one of the most exciting bands of the last decade. A video for the song, directed by Miller and Kills BirdsNina Ljeti, features Krauss as a classic country starlet come undone, a perfect complement to the song’s one-two punch of raucous guitar lines and Krauss’s high-octane, anthemic, shout-along chorus.

Texis is the sound of the duo letting go of hang-ups and inhibitions and allowing themselves to embrace the sort of loud, colourful, genre-melting music only they could make. “We stopped worrying about whether or not we’re in or out of our comfort zone, or if we were being repetitive or formulaic,” says Derek Miller. The first domino was pushed in late 2018 when Miller sent an early demo of the track that would become “Justine Go Genesis” to Sleigh Bells singer and co-writer Alexis Krauss, feeling excited about its ultra-fast tempo but slightly self-conscious about his cartoonish, over-the-top metal riff. Krauss clicked with the music right away and wrote her bright, unabashedly poppy melody within a few hours of receiving the track, resulting in a song that sounds like the unexpected intersection of Metallica, Spice Girls, and ‘90s drum and bass. The wild maximalism of “Justine Go Genesis” would open the floodgates for the exuberant cheerleader metal of “Locust Laced”.

Sleigh Bells - And Saints (Official Video)

Sleigh Bells‘ highly anticipated mini-LP, Kid Kruschev is out now as is the band’s incredible ‘And Saints’ video,  co-directed by Sleigh Bells’ own Derek Miller and Mimi Cave. Sleigh Bells will embark on a massive North American tour this winter, with support from UK/EU label-mates Sunflower Bean. Dates here.

Sleigh Bells – Rainmaker

Sleigh Bells have today shared new track “Rainmaker,” the second single from their forthcoming mini-LP Kid Kruschev due out November 10th, 2017. Following on the heels of the dark, meditative “And Saints”, “Rainmaker” marks a return to the band’s block-party influences, mixing a subtly eq’d sampling of The Soul Searchers’ classic “Ashley’s Roachclip” break-beat (made famous in Eric B & Rakim’s “Paid In Full”), with layers of gritty head-rush instrumental immersion, careening guitars, pep rally stomps and Krauss’s urgent, crystalline vocals to glorious effect.

Says the band’s Derek Miller about the song:  “Some of you might recognize the main synth/chord progression of ‘Rainmaker’ from the trailer we made for Reign of Terror back in 2011. I’ve always loved those chords…only took me six years to find the right spot for them. I’ve also been dying to sample the Soul Searchers ‘Ashley’s Roachclip’ break, which is up there with Funky Drummer in my humble opinion (Miss you, Clyde). I think the two speak to each other, puts me in a good place. And of course I really, really love Alexis’s vocal which sounds desperate in the best way.”

Sleigh Bells – Kid Kruschev

Sleigh Bells – comprised of vocalist Alexis Krauss and producer/guitarist Derek Miller – will release a mini-album entitled Kid Kruschev on November 10th, 2017 via ourselves across Europe and the band’s own label Torn Clean in the US. The collection’s first song, a dark, meditative track entitled “And Saints,” is available now.

Says Miller about the new songs:

“Doesn’t feel like the sky is falling, feels more like it fell. Maybe a long time ago and it’s just more obvious now. Lots of friction and darkness as well as opposition to all that, which has been inspiring to see. Alexis moved north of Brooklyn recently, somewhere with trees and cliffs, providing us with a new space to write and record without pissing off neighbors, so that’s what we’ve been doing. We didn’t want to wait another year or two to release something. We like the idea of putting out shorter records at a more consistent rate, so we’re gonna give it a shot for a while, see how it feels. Thanks for listening. Take care.”
