Gotye
- Our New Signing
22.04.08
Gotye
(pronounced Gaultier - like Jean Paul) is a one-man indie success
story, a Beck-style sample magpie and a huge-hearted songwriter.
Acting as his own manager, plugger and record label while working
in a library by day, Belgium-born Gotye has won a plethora of
prestigious awards in his adopted home of Australia. He has won
both the Australian equivalent of the Mercury Music Award
(the AMP) and a BRIT Award (the ARIA for
Best Male Artist), in 2007. ‘Hearts A Mess’,
which we’ll be putting out as his debut UK single next month,
was also voted ‘Track of the Year’ by the listeners
of Australia’s equivalent to Radio One.
Check
out our first bit of UK press from those ever-on-the-ball peeps
at The Guardian HERE.
Oh, and we must mention the already multi-award-winning video.

favour and check it out HERE.
Truly breathtaking stuff, folks.
And
last but definitely not least we’re also pleased to inform
you of Gotye’s first-ever European tour dates! First he’ll
be stopping by his native Belgium before coming over to the UK
for dates in London and at the Great Escape festival in Brighton.

Tellier - Divine Eurovision Scala
21.04.08
Sebastien’s
second single off ‘Sexuality’ is ‘Divine’,
which will be released May 19th and comes backed
with some seriously excellent remixes courtesy of Midnight
Juggernauts and Danger and another fantastic sleeve
design courtesy of Manu Cossu. Vinyl formats are strictly
limited so we suggest you click on the links to the right quick
sharp. Factor in an extensive European tour and the still brilliantly
bonkers fact that he’ll be representing France at Eurovision
2008 in Belgrade May 24th, and it’s readily
apparent that everyone’s favorite Frenchman has got one
hell of a Spring ahead of him. Before we get too far ahead of
ourselves, we’d be remiss in neglecting to mention Tellier’s
return to London later this month when he takes over the Scala
on April 28th, this time with support from the
lovely Lykke Li and up-and-comer Bridgette Amofah.
Sadly for those of you who haven't yet secured tickets, this one's
already sold out, but what did you expect? Dude is completely
on fire.
Seventeen
Evergreen - Encyclopedia Pictura
18.04.08
Our
favourite Californian electronic/rock pop duo, Seventeen Evergreen,
are currently holed up in a cabin somewhere in the verdant hills
of California, hard at work on their second album. A bit too early
to report on that front yet, but you may remember them teaming
up with a then-unknown art/video directing duo called Encylcopedia
Pictura way back when on their debut video for ‘Haven’t
Been Yourself’ and also on their much admired artwork
for their album etc. Well, the Encyclopedia boys are all grown
up now and recently debuted their awe-inspiring and deservedly
uber-hyped new video for Bjork’s ‘Wanderlust’
(to be formally released with 3D goggles soon, no less) to universal
critical acclaim. What’s not terribly well-known, however,
is that the EP collective also put together a number of short
clips to accompany Seventeen Evergreen’s live shows. Although
said clips were previously unavailable for viewing outside of
the confines of the venues graced by the band over the last year
or so - now, for the first time, we’re pleased to announce
that these clips can be viewed via the all powerful YouTube. Please
check out the individual links below as each and every video is
superb or watch all of the bands videos in one session here

Tellier - Eurovision 2008!
11.03.08
Following the release of his outstanding
new studio album ‘Sexuality’, Sebastien Tellier, the
voice of modern French electronic pop, has now been chosen to represent
his country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, to be
held in Belgrade on 24th May.
As news travels through the shocked
blog world, Sebastien Tellier once again shows his contrary
and beguiling ability to both unite generations of French artistic
entrepreneurs (from Serge Gainsbourg through Daft Punk to Mr
Oizo and the Ed Bangers’ crew) and to continually confound
singer-songwriter stereotypes with his mercurial magic. As
always, with Sebastien, expect the unexpected.
Sebastien says of the event, "I
am thrilled and excited about the prospect of performing in Belgrade
in May. My recent album, ‘Sexuality’, is my
attempt at relaying my vision of perfect love and I am therefore
very happy to have been presented with an opportunity to express
this idea to a wider European audience".
Sebastien will perform one of ‘Sexuality’s’
standout songs and future single, ‘Divine’, at the event,
which he will adapt to sing half in English and half in French.
The song is a supremely uplifting and infectious slice of electro
funk with beach boy-esque harmonies - the perfect soundtrack to
the summer.
Monsieur Tellier is an inspired,
if surprising, choice. He has always cut a maverick figure, constantly
astounding and delighting his audiences. Anyone who has seen him
in action will know that his live performances are truly legendary
- bizarre and beautiful in equal measure.
What will our Terry think of our
Sebastien? - the mind truly boggles. France Douze (12) Points!

great review of our label in his fine magazine Swell (www.swellmusic.co.uk).

Sebastien
Tellier - Sexuality
27.02.08
Sebastien Tellier’s new studio
album ‘Sexuality’ is out now! A stunning musical statement
it combines all the elements of his deeply emotive French individualism
with a new melodic pop sensibility that is instantly accessible.
Produced by Guy Manuel De Homem-Christo - astonishingly the first
full artist project that he has produced outside of Daft Punk -
this is a fantastic album that explodes pre-conceptions and heralds
a new musical direction for Sebastien.
From the stylish electronic groove
of opening track ‘Roche’ through the irresistible synth
riffs of ‘Kilometer’ and ‘Sexual Sportswear’,
the upbeat, almost Phantom Of Paradise-esque harmonies of ‘Divine’,
and slow-burning atmospheric keys of ‘Elle’ and ‘Une
Heure’ the album fizzes with a creative energy that is hard
to resist and even harder to pin down.
‘Sexuality’ is Tellier’s
musical statement of intent for lovemaking: emotional, hypnotic
and oozing with sensuality. With blissfully understated vocals,
conveying a barely suppressed passion, Tellier comes on like a modern
day Serge Gainsbourg. Musically, the album touches on everything
from synthetic electro and classical, to 80’s inspired pop
and disco, and it’s great!
“Achingly Romantic”

“Lush keyboards and swooning
synthetic basslines” (The Guardian ****)

“A modern electronic masterpiece”
(Clash)
“Aural Viagra” (Mojo)
“Emotive, electronically laced-soul
with a decadent splash of Daft Punk sensibilities”’
