Dream Wife - Hasta La Vista

The band have also launched their new So When You Gonna… Podcast series, listen and subscribe here.

Having always been outspoken about holding up other womxn and non-binary people in the arts and creative industries, the band have – as they say in the record’s first single “Sports!” – “put their money where their mouth is” with this new series. Each episode is a one-on-one interview with a different creative, connected with Dream Wife, about how exactly they managed to hone their craft. The band have interviewed friends, collaborators and people whom also inspire them across multiple fields and hope to encourage their fans and listeners to start something new, to pursue their creative interests and also to provide advice in navigating these industries.

With a gender divide in music production currently estimated at around ninety-five percent male to five percent female, it felt right for the first episode to feature the new album’s producer Marta Salogni discussing how to get into music production in an in-depth conversation with Rakel.

Dream Wife – Sports! + Album Announce

Dream Wife have announced their explosive second album, So When You Gonna…, dealing with topics such as abortion, miscarriage, and gender equality, and produced entirely by a non-male team of producer and mixer Marta Salogni (Björk, Holly Herndon, FKA Twigs), engineer Grace Banks (David Wrench, Marika Hackman) and mastering engineer Heba Kadry (Princess Nokia, Alex G, Beach House). While it touches on important themes, there’s also an immediacy, a ‘now or never’ excitement that exists right at the core of this record, that encourages you to stop waiting and start doing. The album title is a play on that central idea. “It’s an invitation, a challenge, a call to action,” say the band. So When You Gonna… will be released on July 3rd  – pre-order HERE.

To celebrate the album announcement, Dream Wife share the album’s lead single “Sports!” Having played almost 200 shows across 2018, the band forgot how to sit still, and turned to playing sports together while writing the new album. “Sports!” an ode to those moments in which they needed to expel some post-tour energy. It’s an absurd, playful, moreish track, full of colourful guitar flourishes and winking vocal asides. The band self-directed and self-produced the music video, check out the song and incredible music video.

Dream Wife – FUU Video

Dream Wife - F.U.U. ft. Fever Dream

Dream Wife have shared their latest video for album closer and firm live favourite ’F.U.U.’ that sees them reunited with their long time visual collaborator Aidan Zamiri and features guest Icelandic rapper Fever Dream spitting bars.

“F.U.U.” is a ferocious livewire anthem at Dream Wife’s gigs, and it felt natural to team up for the video with the all female, and decidedly punk rock, EVE Wrestling. Featured in the likes of Buzzfeed, The Guardian, Time Out, The New York Times and more, EVE have literally blown up in the wake of Netflix’s recent GLOW series, even expanding beyond their monthly wrestling shows to start their own wrestling school, the EVE Academy. Wrestlers Charlie Morgan, Livvii Grace, Bea Priestley, Erin Angel, Jamie Hayter and newly crowned XWA British Heavyweight Champion Rhia O’Reilly all feature in the video.

The band say: For our new video for F.U.U consider: ROCK AND ROLL AS AN EXTREME SPORT. A place where everyone gets a 10, there are no winners, no losers, just high adrenaline, high octane good times.

F.U.U is a partly tongue in cheek, partly deadly serious exploration of gleeful aggression and where better to WORK OUT this aggression than in the wrestling ring?

We would like to thank all of the Bad Bitches, Aidan & the Dream Team and the gang at EVE WRESTLING from the bottom of our hearts, as they taught us; everyone is a wrestler, maybe they just don’t realise it yet.”

Dream Wife – Hey Heartbreaker Video

Dream Wife - Hey Heartbreaker (Official Music Video)

Dream Wife are gearing up to the release of their long-awaited self-titled debut album, which will be released on January 26th. Today, they share new single ‘Hey Heartbreaker’ alongside an incredible video animated and directed by Joe Prytherch, more widely known by his moniker Mason London and his role as the former art director of Boiler Room.  The video was premiered by i-D.

Envisioning a dystopian near-future depicting the band as robot performers held in a sleazy bar against their will, Prytherch’s imaginative direction and distinct art style is stunning. Taking loose inspiration from Anime, and the acclaimed Akira, the Robo-Dream Wife’s performance and breakneck escape offers a substantive and incredibly cinematic music video.

Dream Wife comment on the video:

“We were super excited to work with Mason London to bring the world of Hey! Heartbreaker to life. Collaboration is integral in our approach to Dream Wife, and we encourage different creative ideas and paths to mix with our own vision.

It’s uncanny to watch these mechanical, parallel versions of ourselves rock out and then break out. We like to think that in another reality our robot versions are continuing their adventures; perhaps in the forest, perhaps plotting for a robot revolution, perhaps playing wild, secret rock shows to other robos”.

The band are also excited to announce an intimate launch show on album release day at the Sebright Arms in London, exclusive to fans signed up to their mailing list, as well as a free in-store at Rough Trade East. Following which the band will head off to Australia and then a full UK and European tour, which will include their biggest headline show to-date at London’s Heaven.

Dream Wife – Let’s Make Out Video + Tour Announce

Dream Wife - Let's Make Out

Dream Wife release their long-awaited self-titled debut album early next year and today they share a striking music video for the record’s opening track. Let’s Make Out’, the band’s celebratory ode to femme sexuality and consent, has premiered with Noisey.

Dream Wife explains the video: “Let’s Make Out is a lighthearted celebration of sexuality. Women are and have a right to be sexual beings. The video is silly, hedonistic and really fun. There is no shame in sexuality, there is no shame in fun. But remember; consent is key.

Proms are synonymous with coming of age, a necessary social before graduation. We threw an irl (in real life) prom at our recent London show to announce our album and the night ended with much of the cast from the video making out and dancing with us on stage. Prom in many ways represents us coming of age as a band and we’re hoping to usher in this new era; dancing, making out, making things with our friends and flipping the script every step of the way.”

Renowned for their ferocious live show, the band are also excited to announce a UK and European tour, which will include their biggest headline show to-date at London’s Heaven. All forthcoming live dates below.
