Darwin Deez: You Can't Be My Girl

Love/hate anthem “You Can’t Be My Girl” is the second single to be lifted from Darwin’s sophomore album Songs For Imaginative People, which was released February 11.  The single release is accompanied by remixes from Cid Rim and Is Tropical.

Clemens Bacher, aka Cid Rim, is at the forefront of a selection of producers responsible for vamping up the international Viennese rep, as well as being part of the criminally hot Lucky Me crew. His combo of tech beats, sweeping synths & throbbing pulses are likely to encourage dance-floor shapes way beyond the geometric.

Like Deez himself, Kitsune’s Is Tropical are known for blurring the boundaries between band and beat culture. Here they mix slo-mo house, classic Shep Pettibone style vocal-pitching techniques and a few mad keyboards with an emphasis on adding a quirky ‘hands in the air’ euphoric quality to Darwin’s anthemic song. It’s like an itch that you happily want to scratch and jump about to.

The remixes follow on from the brilliant Keith Schofield-directed video, now viewed over 600k times across YouTube and Vimeo, which utilizes soulless corporate stock footage to tell an engaging, story of unrequited love.
